The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has declared 28 September of every year as the “International Day for Universal Access to Information” (IDUAI). In commemoration of this important day, which was previously known as the “Right to Know” day, the Information Regulator (Regulator) and the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) in collaboration with UNESCO, the Centre for Human Rights (CHR) and the African Centre of Excellence for Information Ethics (ACEIE) of the University of Pretoria, the Information for All Programme (IFAP) and Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) will jointly host this event on 27 September 2019.

This year’s event will be used to advance awareness on the right of access to information as it relates to digital equality and universal access to the internet. The event will also reflect on the opportunities brought by the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) with regards to Universal Access to the Internet.
