In a report by Media Monitoring Africa, presented to the IEC on 31 May, X (Twitter) was the platform with the most instances of content found to be disinformation, at 68% of all disinformation complaints. 

TikTok was in second, with 15%. 

William Bird, the director of MMA, told News24 that, when alerted to these disinformation posts, other platforms, including Meta and TikTok, took action, while “X has done nothing”.

Two of the main trends MMA noticed were false information regarding election results, and information intended to undermine the credibility of the IEC and its commissioners. 

The MMA report mentioned: 

Of grave concern was that instances of this were created through official social media channels of political parties or representatives.
