Which journalist will have the most innovative story idea on the African Child?
Join us as we seek to celebrate and reward the best stories ideas submitted for Media Monitoring Africa’s inaugural Isu Elihle Awards.
In a first of its kinds for our continent, South African based media watchdog, Media Monitoring Africa (MMA), in partnership with Media Network on Child Rights and Development (MNCRD) in Zambia, and Save the Children International (SCI) have launched awards for media professionals with the aim to encourage fresh reporting, innovative angles, insightful investigations that seek to give children a voice and elevate the status of the child in Eastern and Southern Africa.
Between 5 October to 3 November 2016, media professionals from the Southern and Eastern Africa regions submitted their story ideas to the Isu Elihle Awards be considered for the coveted cash prizes prizes and financial support to develop their story ideas – a combined ZAR100 000 investment in outstanding journalism.
The Isu Elihle Awards ceremony will be held at Google South Africa in Bryanston, Johannesburg, on 7 November 2016. To incorporate, the East African region in the celebrations, the awards will cross over to awards’ partners Save the Children in Kenya via Google Hangouts. During the ceremony, the top three story ideas will be announced and the finalists will be presented with awards and financial support for the respective newsrooms.
Director in the Press Council, Joe Thloloe, will give a keynote address along with child media monitors involved in the adjudication process.
